It was the second time that Queer Eye won the Outstanding Structured Reality Program. Another award in its pocket was Outstanding Casting for a Reality Program. This is a reboot reality show by Netflix. In Each episode, a sloppy straight guy will try to change the look and his casual lifestyle with help of five gays. Its precursor Queer Eye for the Straight Guy won the Outstanding Reality program Emmy in 2004.

When talking about the difference between the old and new, executive producer Rob Eric commented Queer Eyes “is about visibility for gay men and women. This show is about… We’re here, .. talking about our husbands, talking about our wives. The big difference between the two shows, I think we get to know them (the hosts) more. This iteration, (is about) having them come into your home and be part of your family (instead of just watching them).”

HBO’s Chernobyl was another big winner. The show was based on true historic event -- an explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. How people tried to survive and relieve the pain brought by the catastrophe became the core of the show. The episode 1:23:45 won Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Limited Series or Movie, Outstanding Sound Editing for a Limited Series, Movie or Special and Outstanding Special Visual Effects in A Supporting Role. The episode Please Remain Calm also won three awards for Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Limited Series or Movie, Outstanding Music Composition for a Limited Series, Movie or Special (Original Dramatic Score) and Outstanding Cinematography for a Limited Series or Movie. Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Period or Fantasy Program (One Hour or More) was also given to this show. For Primetime Emmy Awards, Chernobyl will contend for Outstanding Limited Series.

Outstanding Children’s Program was awarded to When You Wish Upon A Pickle: A Sesame Street Special. The show still charms audience after nearly half a century. Outstanding Animated Program was given The Simpsons, which would celebrate its 30th anniversary this year. HBO’s Leaving Neverland and Netflix’s Our Planet won Documentary or Nonfiction Special and Documentary or Nonfiction Series respectively.

As the prelude for Primetime Emmy Awards on September 22, 2019, Creative Arts Emmys Awards were announced a week ahead. The ceremony was held at The Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. Game of Throne, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Chernobyl were top of all contenders. Many celebrities attended the ceremony, Kim Kardashian West, Rachel Bloom and Queer Eye‘s Karamo Brown, Bobby Berk, Jonathan Van Ness, Tan France and Antoni Porowski included.

United Shades of America won Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program. This show aims to represent and explore life and subculture of various races in America. The core is serious and the manifestation is humorous. The host W. Kamau Bell said “White people, I’m asking you to bring more diversity and inclusion on these shows” when he gave the acceptance speech.

The HBO’s Game of Thrones, ending up with 8 seasons this year, made a new record with 32 nominations for both Creative Arts Emmys and Primetime Emmys, and finally achieved 10 out of 18 at former one. The awards included Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes, Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour) and Outstanding Casting for a Reality Program, etc. The widely discussed music The Long Night in controversial episode In the dark marked itself by Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score). No doubt that Game of Throne could be entitled as the biggest winner and this show will be a new legend.

For Primetime Emmy Awards, it is still competitive for Outstanding Drama Series. Its biggest rivalry is thought to be This Is Us. Kit Harington, who plays Joan Snow, will compete for Outstanding Lead Actor in Drama Series. Emilia Clarke will go for the same award for actress.
